Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and her vice-minister Zhecho Stankov visited Burgas and had a meeting with the major Dimitar Nikolov. Recently the Ministry of Energy approved a municipal project for the renovation of the Regional Heating Station in Meden rudnik housing estate. Today the minister visited the site as well as one of the educational establishments which will use thermal energy from the future modern station.

“The Municipality of Burgas has drawn up an excellent project and now I can see the significance of its application,” said Temenuzhka Petkova.

The major Nikolov laid special emphasis on the required quick start of the repair works as all three education establishments connected to the station – ‘Konstantin Petkanov” Secondary School of General Education, “Elin Pelin” Primary School, and “Morska zvezda” Kindergarten, have difficulties with the heating at the moment.

The major Nikolov and his deputy Yordanka Ananieva asked the minister about the possibility to apply the very next year for the construction of photovoltaics on the roofs of Burgas kindergartens. This will lead to additional optimization of the heat comfort which they offer and will decrease their financial costs.

Over the last years the Municipality of Burgas has taken full advantage of the possibility to attract external funds under various energy efficiency programmes. Thousands of megawatt hours of energy and thousands of tons of harmful emissions in the airs have been saved thanks to the renovations.

32 out of 34 kindergartens and 38 out of 48 schools have been renovated in Burgas. The renovations were made with funds granted under the following projects: Eco Trust Fund – 8 sites; Kozlodui fund – 17 sites; Energy Efficiency and Renewable Sources fund – 15 sites as well as with funds under other programmes and with own funds as well.

This year all lamps of all lampposts in the 80-thousand-people Meden rudnik housing estate have been replaced with new under Kozlodui fund. The renovation of more than 150 blocks of flats in Burgas is to begin under the National Programme for Free Renovation.
