At a special ceremony in Sofia the contracts of 32 Bulgarian municipalities and 9 small and medium enterprises with a total value of 20.5 million BGN under programme BG04 “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy” were handed.
Present at the event were the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Bulgaria Her Excellency Guru Katerina Viktör, representatives of the Ministry of Petrol and Energy in Norway and of the office of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area.
The Minister of Energy Temenuzha Petkova personally handed the contract for major repair of Regional Heating Station – Meden rudnik to the Municipality of Burgas. The deputy-major Yordanka Ananieva received the project on behalf of the major Dimitar Nikolov.
“Technical University – Sofia – Technologies” EOOD and “NORSK ENERGI” – Norway are partners of the Municipality of Burgas under the project.
The activities under the project include replacement of the existing heating station with a new one, which will operate on wooden pellets, delivery and installation of two steel hot water boilers for biomass burning, reconstruction of the building and construction of a warehouse for wooden pellets with a stock for at least seven days, fuel-feeding mechanisms for pellet transportation and training of the personnel to work with the new system.
The present Regional Heating Station in Meden rudnik housing estate provides the heat-supply of “Konstantin Petkanov” Secondary School of General Education , “Elin Pelin” Primary School ‘and “Morska zvezda” Kindergarten No.1. The equipment is old, amortized and does not comply with the energy efficiency standards.
The Heating Station in Meden rudnik housing estate is of the “closed” type and is equipped with 3 boilers with total installed thermal capacity of 6 988 kW.
The energy source used is expensive and non-renewable. The old boilers are in very bad state, with leaks which appear again and again despite the repeated repairs. This called for the urgent replacement of the old boilers and burners.
The reconstruction will secure a much better heating for thousands of students, will save funds and will make the air in the housing estate cleaner.
