A new, completely automated hot water boiler was delivered at the Regional Heating Station (RHS) in “Meden rudnik” housing estate. It will produce energy via controlled burning of biomass – wooden pellets, splinters (woodchips), broken shells and stones. The boiler has a maximum capacity of 1650 kW, a built-in fuel tank with 1400 ltr volume and an anti-fire system. Its predecessor was in very bad state, extremely corroded, with numerous leaks which could not be fixed permanently and efficiently despite the continuous repairs.
The delivery and installation of the new equipment are part of the execution of the repair activities under “Energy Efficiency of Central Heating of Three Municipal Educational Buildings in City of Burgas, Meden Rudnik Residential Area” project, BG04-02-03-022-007.
This is the first boiler of such big capacity in terms of biomass burning which will be used for public needs in Burgas region. It becomes part of the Station which is used for the heating of two schools and a kindergarten in “Meden rudnik” housing estate: “Elin Pelin” Primary School, ‘Konstantin Petkanov” Secondary School of General Education and “Morska zvezda” Day Kindergarten.
An underground distribution network of steel pipes in concrete collectors has been built to supply heat energy to the abovementioned educational establishments. The underground heating system supplying “Elin Pelin” Primary School is being replaced now with new factory pre-insulated pipes. The pipes of the underground heating systems from RHS to “Morska zvezda” Day Kindergarten and from RHS to ‘Konstantin Petkanov” Secondary School of General Education will also be replaced.
The project funding is provided under Programme BG04 “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy” under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2009-2014. The partners of the Municipality of Burgas are “Technical University – Sofia – Technologies” EOOD and “NORSK ENERGI” – Norway. “Thermal Engineering” OOD, based in Burgas, is Contractor of this site.
The reconstruction of the Station and the replacement of the connecting pipe lines will guarantee a heating of higher quality for thousands of children and will decrease the financial costs. And last but not least – the residents of “Meden rudnik” housing estate will have much cleaner air as the harmful emission will decrease manifold as compared to the situation before the repair.
This project is the final touch in the campaign for energy efficiency improvement in the educational establishments in the vast housing estate. Within several years the Municipality of Burgas managed to renovate the building of absolutely all schools and kindergartens in this estate. Now the renovated RHS will provide three of them with much cheaper and cleaner energy.
